Touring Asia

Leaving Zhengzhou

It truly has been a journey of a thousand miles, as I am writing this post from Thailand! I apologize for not writing as much as I hoped but I am ready for a fresh start.

My position with Best International Schools did not work out. I was hired to implement an American Curriculum. I (and Best) didn’t realize how much of a transition there would be for the Chinese staff and parents to make this change. There were cultural differences and expectations that I wasn’t prepared for, and the opportunity for collaboration wasn’t a part of the culture to solve these challenges. That being said, I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked and lived in China for a month. I learned quite a bit about the Chinese culture, families, and myself as an educational leader.

The Great Wall of China

“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood….” is one of my favorite quotes. As I look back at my life, taking the road less traveled has always been an adventure with the support of my family and friends. Pat and I are taking the road to Asia before we head back to Plano. Not being on a timetable has offered us the opportunity to really explore some parts of China and now Thailand.

My future “blogs” will highlight the things we have seen and learned about this part of the world.

We miss all of you. We talk about missing apple cider, pumpkins, and drinking coffee on the deck, but we do not miss driving and shopping at Wal-mart!
